Award winning blues-rock artist Laurence Jones comes to Pontardawe Arts Centre with his debut solo acoustic ‘On My Own’ tour, returning to his roots: PURE BLUES!
The award-winning and critically acclaimed blues artist from Liverpool has opened for the likes of Ringo Starr, Sir Van Morrison, Jeff Beck, Johnny Winter, Walter Trout and recently Status Quo. After Joining Buddy Guy on stage to jam and experience the blues first hand, Buddy remarked "He’s like a young Eric Clapton" and that pretty much says it all.
Laurence has just released his most personal album to date, his first ever solo acoustic album. On My Own is an intimate record that explores recent health struggles and takes him back to his roots where it all began.
The album marks a new chapter for Jones, following what he describes as the most difficult time of his life battling Crohn’s disease. Written during a flare up, On My Own reflects raw truths about living with this invisible disease, for Jones it represents both survival and reinvention On My Own is a story driven record, weaving traditional blues with honest autobiographical story telling. Dr’s orders meant Jones had to re-think his high energy stage performances, the change sparked a new creative path that’s raw and organic. Living with Crohn’s disease has shaped not only Jone’s music but also his perspective, as an ambassador for Crohn’s & Colitis UK, he hopes the album will resonate with others facing any struggles & invisible disease.
The award winning guitarist is now paying homage to some of his blues heroes like Robert Johnson and Lightnin Hopkins. This is a blues show not to be missed.
Despite his health challenges, Jones continues to add to a career that already includes multiple British Blues Awards, over 50,000 albums sold worldwide, #1 album in the Official UK Jazz & Blues chart. This time, however, the focus is less on charts and accolades and more on telling his story through stripped-down, heartfelt blues.
